Accinov Lyon, France
General presentation
Background
The Lyonbiopôle global health cluster wanted to create a collaborative innovation platform, called Accinov, in the district of Lyon Gerland, epicenter of the health sector. This place was intended to accommodate startups in biotechnology, by putting at the disposal of these laboratories, bioproduction units, clean rooms and turnkey services.
Accinov proposed an innovative hosting model for biotechnology companies that develop innovative breakthrough technologies, products and services.
Our response
To respond to this direct order, we invented a usage-based tool, i.e. integrating all the techniques and technologies, but also modular and flexible for the multiple research projects. Our understanding of “hotels with dedicated resources” has allowed us to design a “racing engine with a beautiful shell”.
Architectural Mission
This building is part of a new urban project in the vicinity of the Stade de Gerland, and was developed in a mutual partnership with the services of Maison de Gerland and ABF, considering its proximity to the Tony Garnier stadium, classified as a HM. It has a tertiary facade underscored by a substructure of glass, while the technical blocks are in the background. Although isolated and protected, these spaces receive natural light generated by large floor-to-ceiling windows.
Engineering Mission
The process, inescapable, has led to the architecture, and not the reverse. The respect for the constraints and expertise of the engineers in terms of clean rooms and laboratories resulted in a state-of-the-art building, whose architecture strongly establishes its identity.
